Umpire Classes Lorain County Hot Stove will be hosting umpire classes and clinics on 3 consecutive Sundays, February 26, March 4 and March 11, from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Grafton VFW Hall.
On the February 26th class, Major League Baseball Umpire James Hoye will be presenting. James is a native North Olmsted resident and got his start umpiring in Hot Stove. He is a full time umpire with MLB and traditionally has an entertaining and informative presentation. Even if you are not interested in umpiring, guests are welcome to attend. Coaches are strongly encouraged to attend one or all classes. Umpiring is a great way to learn another side of the sport, including rule interpretations. It is also a great way to earn extra money! Classes are open to ages 12 through adult.
If you have questions about umpiring in North Ridgeville, contact our Head Umpire, Matt Smith at 440.773.0779 or email him, matt@nrhotstove.com.
If you have general questions about umpiring or the classes, please contact Lou Vasi at 440.327.7628 or email him at lou@loraincountyhotstove.com. Fall Projects If you haven't been around Palmer Field for a while, drive on through. There is a great deal of work going on to make Palmer even better! Here are some of the things going on:
New Dugouts on Fields 1 and 3:
The old dugouts met their match and are being replaced with all new dugouts. All dugout floors are being built on cement bases, so no more mud! In addition, new fencing is going up from the backstop, all the down the first and third base lines! Field 3 is getting a brand new backstop as well!
The Lights:
The rumors are true; Field 2 will have lights next year! This means the return of night games at Palmer. It is even rumored that Opening Day 2012 will be an extraveganza, under the lights! More details to follow...
Other Items:
*Grass has been planted near the parking lot and Field 2...
*Several trees on the first base side of Field 3 and the overflow parking lot were removed...
*Other beautification projects are ongoing, such as potentially re-graveling the parking lot, possible fences instead of telephone poles as parking lot borders, point-of-sale system for the concession stand, security system to prevent future vandalism, upgraded sound system and much more.
2012 is going to be an exciting time at Palmer. We are always looking for people that want to join the fun and help out on projects or events. Contact a Board Member if you would like to join the fun. 2012 will be a season like no other. Spring is right around the corner (after a hopefully mild winter) and the Board could not be more pumped!
